Mr. E.G.,

What about those lame AC-Aces with a Ford V8?
Or Lotuses w/ Toyota engines?

Ariel Atoms w/ Honda or GM engines?

Maseratis w/ Ferrari engines?

McLaren F1 w/ Mercedes engine?

Honda Passport w/ Isuzu engine?

Pantera w/ Ford engine?

As long as it fits, is reliable, and a good engine w/ a well-engineered transplant, I'm OK.

I'd just go with a C5. Too many potential problems with a swapped car. Plus the RX7 was such a unique car, it's one of the few swaps I'm not a fan of.

If it was a toy, I could live with the rotary engine in an RX-7.
but I could stll be totally with an FD+LSx

C5s look soo dated, an FD looks more modern in comparison

Yeah that was a Bimmer motor with a gold plated engine bay

Still my favorite supercar along with the Carerra GT

After surfing that rx-7/ls1 forum those swaps on average cost 10k. Alot of fabrication but the parts are easily available.

Contrary to what ZX-10 says, those rx-7 interiors don't hold up very well over time. Flaps break or plastic dohicky things come off. Just look at some of those threads and youll see what I'm talking about. People are custom making their own stuff by taking pieces of plywood smoothing it and wrapping leather around it.

I can't vouch for the longevity issue, but I think the FD interior is damn near perfect. It has a timeless look to it. I think my NA miata interior looks incredible considering how old it is. It's plain enough as to not really look dated.

Damn you! Ok, so maybe that car gets an exception... wait, NO!

Awesomeness should not be a factor here. An FD with a v8 would be plenty awesome just the same, but it still falls under my lameness factor of having to rely on another manufacturer to make your car worth a crap.

Ok, maybe I should break this down a little further.

Swapping a powerful engine into a car that has a completely shit engine is one degree of lameness. (let's say you put a Corvette engine in a geo metro)

Swapping a good engine into a car that has a different type of good engine is mega ultra cop-out lame. (swapping a v8 into an rx7)

lol. I realize I am not being logical here (feel free to mock me for this). I can't quite put it into words, but I feel the same way when I see the M3 Rahal Letterman BMW M3 in the ALMS series.

All of the other cars in the GT2 class really are modified versions of a production car and they still retain many of the car's original shortcomings. This M3 abomination has been converted to a wishbone front suspension setup using entirely different chassis pickup points, has a cut up unibody to accommodate the rear wheels and custom suspension pickup points, has been converted to run a transaxle, etc.

If they win it's like "Wow, cool... you guys won with a car built to much higher specs than the rest of the cars in the class."
