Problems with beater.
hi guys, i have a 2001 daewoo nubira with 68k on the clock.
was running a bit low on oil last week so i just added a bit more oil to it to get me by for a few weeks before an oil change.
next morning getting into traffic i had to step on it and lots of smoke coming out of the back, no smoke from the hood just under and rear of the car for a good 20 secs. than went away, drove fine.
thought maybe i added too much oil the day before the extra oil may have leaked.
next day got the oil changed.
no more smoke, but when the car is in park or neutral it seems like the car hits the rev limiter at 4500 instead of 6500.
when driving normally under 3000 rpms it's fine, but when i have to step into it a bit it won't go. it's automatic, no check engine light.
any thoughts?

whats a daewoo nubira?
just a small car with a 4 cylinder engine to get from point a to point b.
to be honest i've been happy with it, just don't know what's going on with it right now.

Did you try resetting the ecu? Either find and unplug the fuses for the ecu or just unplug the negative terminal of your battery for 30sec-1min. Your car might have gone into a sort of safety mode do to the overfill issue.
thanks for the idea.
Dave-ROR- it did not do it before. even when the car is running, it is very hesitant to go past 4000, the performance has been degraded drastically. It's my daily commuter so I don't drive it enthusiastically, only a few times a day do i have to get on it to get passed someone.

Does the car have a PCV valve?
If it does it could have gone bad, leak oil into the combustion chamber under full throttle causing loss of power and smoke. A new one should cost less than $10 if that is the problem, but get an original equipment part, not aftermarket if you can.
A bad aftermarket one installed in my Daytona by an oil change place back in high school would make GIANT four lane wide smoke screens if you drove it right. It would make the car bog most times and use oil, but if someone behind me pissed me off, I could hit the gas and let off about three times and then floor it and black out about two city blocks. The cars behind me would literally have to slow to a stop it was so thick. Sometimes I miss that crappy PCV valve........

It is no longer smoking, it smoked twice in one day, from the possible oil overfill, but to be honest, it seemed that performance was degraded some time before that.
Just to rule out other possiblities, coolant is fine. changed the air filter, put in premium gas with gas treatment.
Still rev limits at 4,000, it was actually 4,500 last week, so i can rule out the manufacturer has that set.
although when i put in drive, i floored it and it did drive up to 6,500, no smoke.
but this morning driving to work, i threw out a check engine light.
gonna go to autozone after work to get the code.
thanks for your advice.
