Default Questions: Purchasing a 2005 Corvette

Although some may believe these are basic questions, I wanted to throw them out there anyways, as I am not sure about the answers:

1. Why do dealerships ask for deposits when they never deposit the provided checks? Also, they are 100% refundable (a number of salesmen notified me that they have to return it if you choose not to purchase the vechicle)

2. I plan to place a deposit on the new vette as I believe it is the best car that is available at this time (obviously my personal opinion as I know some may not like it). In instances like this, I always feel the dealer will NEVER let you haggle for the car, since it is a totally new model. Do I have a chance to haggle for the price, beyond sticker? Advice?

Thanks guys!

1. They do that so not every Tom, Dick and Harry will put their name on a waiting list, shows that you are seriously interested in purchasing the car.
2.It will be tough to "haggle" a price on this car, as it will be a new model with a waiting list of customers, if you don't want the car for such and such a price, they will just sell it to the next name on the list, or at least that's what they'll tell you. Good luck, they look to be a great car!

Dude, go to zo6vette.com

They will have a lot more info for you.

At the bottoom of the forum they have dealers who may give you a better deal.

I think the c6 would be a great fun car to have. Personally I'd wait till the 06 model year. The 05 is sure to have bugs. Plus the prices will cool off a little bit. 06 models are only 8 months away. You'll win in 3 ways if you wait.

1. Winter will be coming and sports cars and especially convertibles (if you choose to go that route) will sell slower in the winter.

2. Like above the 06 will be coming out with updates for bugs.

3. Remaining 05's will be able to be had for cheaper

Just my $.02

Like rai said, go to www.z06vette.com and www.corvetteforum.com

There are dealers on there that will give you some of the best deals.

I am guessing there will a huge markup on the first few C6s if you just walk in to a normal dealership.

IMO you should wait a year. GM has a reputation for making the 1st MY owners work thru all their production problems.

USually first years cars have more problems than later on but they are usually little problems and are covered under warranty. Just like the S2000 had some gear grinding issues and the plastic back window etc.

IN the grand scheme of things (maybe its because I am a kid), it seems weird (is that the right word?) to wait an extra 12 months for a car I am really excited about. I would rather deal with the small problems.

Good points....

I go back and forth every day and don't know what to do. I would rather wait for the Z06 but want a new car soon (7 months is a long time already).

I've had the s2k for 2 years now and usually, I get itchy to buy a new car every 2 years, including sportbikes.

I put a deposit down and will see how I feel on that day...

Thanks for the input guys!
