30K plus (local dealers are asking 35k) for a gussied up Golf on a platform that is due to be replaced?

No thanks....

But the VR-6 in it does sound super sweet.

somehow a Golf should never be $30k
In my book it should not be.

how can a Lancer, which is a rental car for god sakes and can be had under $15k somehow be worthy of a $28k sticker? Or a $20k Impreza worthy of a $32k sticker.
Fair enough, but unlike the tarted up VW, at least they are fast.

The R32 is sort of a budget M3- good all around performer wth lots of luxury amenities. I'm not really a VW or German car fan, but the guys that buy those cars think they're getting some sort of "Autobahn burner" despite the fact that the car is made in Eastern Europe or South America or some third world country.

EVO and STi are much faster, but those cars are heavily biased towards performance over comfort.

IMHO, comparing a $32k R32 to an EVO or STi makes about as much sense as comparing a $33k Acura TL to an R32. Even though, of course, the TL is faster in a straight line

You are incorrect. The R32 does not share the same platform as a standard golf.
Uhh yeah it does.
