It isn't illegal to own a radar detector but it is illegal to use one in CA.

That is incorrect, it is LEGAL to own AND use a radar detector in Cali. I have been stopped a few times after a cop paced me without his radar and they never said anything about it. And it is in plain site on the center on the windshield.

This is after being pulled by both the CHP and local police. Now radar JAMMERS are illegal to use in Cali and in most other places.

Why would radar jammers be illegal anyhow? I was under the impression that they were 100% useless. Do any of them actually work?

radar detectors couldn't be illegal (in ca). best buy & circuit city has them on sale every week. most electronic stores advertise them and the fine print only say "not in sale in virginia". i think mass merchandisers would do their homework before selling something that's illegal (i could be wrong & they could have made human errors in the past). i think detectors are not illegal.
