Hi all, I was at Wally World and say a remote car starter kit for like 40-50 bucks. I was thinking if getting it for my fiance's car (she has an auto Ford Contour), cause she is usually running late and can't warm her car up. Anyone have experience with after-market units? I just did a search for them on-line and they seem to be priced more around 100 bucks and more. Anyone tried a $40 model?
On a slighter different note, do many cars still come with this feature as an option? It seemed like it got popular a few years ago, but I don't hear about it as much anymore. Did it not really catch on?
Thanks for your input.

I wanted one for a while but never got it. Kinda don't want it anymore I guess. I don't see why people don't have them on the S2000 more often. Most of these kits are designed to not work if the car is in gear and if the hand brake is not engaged. Too many people were installing them wrong and they stopped selling.
some retard the other day at the mall started her car while my kids and i walked passed it.... she was about 12 feet behind us...... really worth while to get it warmed up for 4 seconds before getting into it....
[lame]wow were we impressed...[/lame]
It was a chevy corsica..... They are at the top of my "want" list.

I had one on my T-Bird. It came as part of an aftermarket alarm system.
I liked it a lot, mostly because I was in an apartment at the time, and I could warm it up or cool it down before I went out in the morning. I could also see it from our fifth-floor office, and have it warm or cool before going out after work.
As someone stated, it's illegal for many shops to install them on a stick shift, but it's easy to do it yourself.

we have a member who has a remote starter on his s2000. it's very possible, all you'd need to do is find a kit that works with immobilizers (you'll have to sacrifice a key for this) and one that works with manual tranny cars. this member's kit also includes a pretty sophisticated alarm and a turbo-timer feature (he's sc'd).
don't buy that $50 kit from wally world. go find yourself a decent all-inclusive kit.
