I can't really explain it to you but if they can bypass the key, I don't see why bypassing the clutch switch would be such a big deal. There's no reason why a remote start couldn't be installed on a manual transmissioned car as long as the owner remembers to leave it in neutral when they park for the night.

I've read of at least one incident (don't remember where, might have been on this forum but it's been a long time) where the owner heard the crash of the car as it barreled through the garage door right after he pushed the remote start button. Supposedly, he'd left the car in reverse and did not set the parking brake. You gotta hate it when that happens!

look behind the clutch pedal. There's a simple little sensor. Take off the clip on the sensor and bada bing. I think I had to actually put it to a ground though. Forget.

You're right. On most cars you need to ground one of the wires to bypass the clutch switch. Some people will use a relay so that the clutch switch is bypassed only when remote starting the car and others will permanently bypass the clutch switch.

I've put remote start systems on manual tranny cars I've owned before, with no ill results. However, I know and have personally witnessed a few cases where someone has accidently left the car in gear and remote started the vehicle. One car backed into a garage door and one rolled down a ditch.

There have been modules available in the past to prevent a manual tranny car from starting if the vehicle is in gear, but they haven't been very reliable. Supposedly DEI is working on a module but I don't know if they are still working on it.

A friend of mine told me that somehow his clutch "caught" after remote starting the vehicle and it drove into another parked car. No one was there to witness it, but he swears up and down that he didn't leave the car in gear and that when he came up to the car the shifter was in neutral. I don't see how this is possible, but maybe someone else can.

Uh-hmmmmm, yeah, right!

He can swear all he wants. The car was in gear! It had to be. It probably popped out of gear on impact. I know that sounds unlikely but it's the only logical explanation. It's certainly more likely than the car moving under it's own power while it was in neutral.

A car popping out of gear is not at all unlikely actually. All it takes to make that gearshift want to jump out is throttle, and since nobody would be pushing the gas that's very likely that it would pop out under impact.

I have a compustar two way alarm system with remote start. Works like a charm but in order for it to work, it has to be engaged by a sequence of events. It has to be in neutral, brake depressed, and then handbrake engaged in that order.

Another friend has a DEI alarm system with the remote start where it has a built in solenoid to sense if the hand brake has been pulled or not.

Some places like Best Buy and Circuit City will refuse to install a remote start option just because of the liability...like remote start starting when the car is in gear....
