Haha...

I know people that make lots money but only have $25-30k allowances for cars. To them that means an Accord, Hyundai, etc where they'd normally drive a $50-80k car, but they see the value in a free car.

A nice "date" would be sharing a Ben and Jerry's icecream while walking on the seawall in Galveston.
Ben and Jerry's is luxury ice cream. Shame on you.

So your best year was the year you two hardly ever saw each other?
Similar experience here. When I was flying out every monday and back every friday, our time together always had a sense of urgency. It really did make simple things much more enjoyable. We had a 775 square foot historic home that I absolutely loved. I drove a Jeep that I basically built and struggled to keep fully functional. Everything was very simple.

Now I'm wealthier, have a bigger house on an island, better job w/ less travel, nicer toys, etc. but I still miss our previous life. It's probably time to sell all my possessions and start over .

That is EXACTLY the reason many people don't go on to advance their education. They are too lazy to spend the time and money. They have kids at 19 years old, they get a $9/hr. job, work their all the way up to $14/hr or something being an assistant manager at some place and are generally OKAY where they are in life.

Not everyone strives to make a lot of money and even those that do sometimes don't do what they need to do to make it. That is why over half the people in this country live on less than $60k/yr household income. But, realize that many are fine with that!

I make several times what I made right out of school 8 years ago because of dumb luck, a bit of skill, and an ability to communicate and fix problems. But, I am absolutely not any happier than I was back then. I have more crap and a better financial future, but my general happiness level is the same because I don't derive happiness from money or possessions.

It may sound passe to those that are still "trying to get there", but it's the truth. If you think that once you make $100k, $200k, $1M, $$ whatever and get that Porsche GT3 and the big house that everything will be hunky dory then, you are deluding yourself. Nothing is free in life.
good post, take a look at the lottery winners, yes they are extremely happy once they win, there serotonin level spikes dramatically, then settles back to your "normal" state of happiness. They actually become less happy because it is nearly impossible to re-create that sense of Euphoria you experienced when you won the lotto.......

More money = more shit, not more happiness...........

Sociology is so interesting to me. The majority of BMW owners lease their car and make less then $50,000.00 a year...............yet the single most common car among millionaires is a Ford F-150 pickup..........

Do you have data to back this up?

Those were my thoughts exactly. I'm guessing not...

Unlikely, but it certainly seems to fit the profile here in Dallas based on personal observation. Any young yuppie here will drive a 3 series even if they only make $30k/year.
