The only thing Tacoma about that is the sticker.
Coincidentally, that's also the only part of it that isn't awesome.

Wow that thing is nasty; which there was room for a passenger. Where I could sit of course.

that was pretty sweet. Man that was a lot of horsepower though. what's the point if you can't put it to the ground
It looked like it was on the ground to me. you always want more hp then the ground, tires, etc can hold if you can control it. It's always faster. He seemed to control it just fine.

I don't know... I hear a lot of squeeks and rattles.. I guess Toyota build quality has gone down..

Sounds awesome.

kinetic coefficient friction is worse than static

so while I agree its nice to have ample power to make the wheels spin when your in higher gears, I do not think it's neccasary to spin through every single gear. spinning = slow. Why do you think people don't use 2000 hp engines. I promise you someone could build it if they really wanted to, there is just no way to control it on 4 tires. I think the fact that he slid into the grass on numerous occasions is evidence enough for not being in great control.

BUT, like someone else mentioned (kind of a d'oh moment for me), the pavement was wet, and that's probably a big reason why he had so little traction

That and the car was built to run Pikes Peak, not Goodwood. This car was a specific build and if I recall he basically pulled out the mothballs and ran it just for fun. Therefore it was probably not really tuned or tweaked.

Anyway, great video!

Actually for maximum traction and acceleration, you want the driving tires to be at 20% slippage...meaning if your actual velocity is at 60 mph, you want the tires to be spinning at 72mph.

Considering this is a hill climb car, wouldn't you want more power than necessary as you will suffer power loss as you increase altitude?

I may be wrong but I think this is one of Dan Gurney's old IMSA GTP Toyotas that had been reskined to it could fit a "truck image" for Pikes Peak

In the day it was reported that this Turbo4 put down close to 1000hp in qualifing trim
