Everyone seems to be going with mulrtiple options these days. The new BMW M3 is going to be available in coupe, convertible and maybe sedan and wagon. The new M5 is coming out as a wagon. The Mercedes C63 is going to be wagon and sedan (CLK? is the coupe).
I guess if the shell is strong enough for the power (why there wasn't an E39 M5 touring) it makes sense to have these models. Minimal expense and the manufacturers cast a wider net to grab more customers.
