Now why they list that weight as "with popular options" escapes me. Normally, I would assume a company would list the weight to their best advantage. But then again, looking at the manual's options list, I don't see anything that'll add all that much weight.
The RX8 is no match for the S2000 on any track or in any kind of competition. The S out accelerates; out turns; and just basically out does this car in every aspect. IMO the Z is a much better rivalry, that car is much more of an even competitor at the track. The RX-8 is not an all out sports car like the 7 was.
the 8 is no less of a sports car than the S is.
It's more civilized than the S. I'm not accusing anyone, i'm just calling it like I see it. it seems that people are judging this car by 1/4 mile and acceleration.....the very feeling that the S brings you when you get in it is what this car is designed to evoke in the driver.
some people here drive a car that is so much more than the sum of it's parts and they still can't see past the throttle pedal. It's not always about "dropping the top" or doing 145 mph. when you dip into a corner in your S, the engineers are talking to you in real time. You are experiencing thier thoughts and philosophies on a scale that usually isn't possible.
sorry if that seems "hoaky and wussy" but I think that a true enthusiast should enjoy the "bigger picture".
there aren't many cars that are true 4 seater NA in the ($27-30K+) bracket that have this performance.
it would really be funny to hear what would be said if the S didn't exist.

because the 8 was built around road manners and driver engagement first and foremost. it was a car that designed from paper to key insertion as a car that could go to the track and truely belong there. the same can't be said for the TL.

Your turn. You're so high and mighty about the RX-8 not having the qualifications for being a sports car -- please explain what those missing qualifications are. What essential sports car feature is the RX-8 missing? Have you even driven one?
Steve

I saw a new Sti, I'd get that over the Rx8 or Evo 8
