I agree about the RX-8 being a nice car. I think it's cool looking, lightweight and RWD, probably the lightest RWD 2+2 we've seen in a long time.

However I'm not sure the engine is worth the bother (its a one of a kind), if rotary was all that and a bag of chips others would be making them, also if it was so great, probably Mazda would drop it in other cars.

DON'T BUY A CAR WHICH WAS IN AN ACCIDENT! You'll end up with all kinds of problems if you do...

For all 4 airbags to have gone off, the accident damage could be significant, a bent frame could result in a wobbly ride, possibly dangerous on the higway, etc...
Amen to that.

Be patient, youll find the car you want. Drive the car you have now as long as you can....kill it. Focus your search for the s2k on cold weather areas of the country while its winter time. Maybe someone needs some cash to pay off the Christmas bills and has a convertible in the garage that he cant drive in the snow.

TIP: When you buy one, never let off the throttle suddenly in the middle of a sweeping corner (especially at speed/hi-revs) unless you want to see who is on the road behind you face to face.

Smart thing to do is save your money for an s2k. You'll be happier in the end.

Thanks for the tip about the spinning out thing btw, I suppose thats why so many s2k's are salvage. =P

First time I test drove it i loved it..........put it into 1st drove away from the dealership keeping it in 1st the entire time, then as soon as i was out of eyesight/earshot i let it go. First shift I performed in the s2k was at 9k rpm, it just felt natural to me.

Maybe it's where i havent gotten used to other cars and this one just..........feels right =P If i could have any car in the world,(including exotics) I would pick a 2004 black s2k =)

00 s2k's have been had for the 10-12 range with 100k miles on them and no wrecks. Salvaged ones even cheaper.

I suggest a used Miata. It's more similar to the S2000 than the RX-8 is, and for $9,000 you won't have to settle for one that's been smashed up.

I suspect that the Miata insurance will be less too.

i would pass based on what your saying what the car needs to get it operable. its too much what ifs when you do get it fixed.

i don't know how old you are but i would take the members advice and wait until you can buy the S. if it is your dream car since 10 i would wait.

The RX-8 is a very nice car. Great handling. As other posters mentioned, gas mileage is pretty bad. Telling you this from firsthand experience, Blue book value is just bullshit - especially for the 8. There is no way you can sell any 8 at blue book value. You should be lucky to find a buyer willing to buy it a few hundred bucks over wholesale. The resale on these is just miserable. Do yourself a favor and research on RX8club.com. Great site, tons of info there. Check out the for sale section and you will get an idea...

good luck.
