s2k vs. NSX
So I started out my automobile search with the 135i, after deciding they were overpriced, I started looking at c6 corvettes. I looked 3 years down the road and couldn't see myself still being in love with that car however, and ended up decided (or so I thought) on trying to find a mint ap1 to have and to hold, to death due us part. As of lately though, I have been looking at the NSX.
Initially I fell in love with the s2000 because of the reasonable price and ease to mod. I could pick up a great ap1, moderately mod it, and have a 300whp s2k and only invest about 25k. The alternative to this, find a reasonably priced early 90's NSX (hopefully around 28k) and I'd have to leave it pretty bone stock.
So what would you do? Slightly modified ap1, or a near stock NSX. Keep in mind, I plan to keep either of the cars forever. I'm not the type to trade in, I just keep buying. I'm comfortable working on the f-series, I don't know how I'd do with the nsx though? Share your 2 cents please!

slightly modified sounds the same as near stock to me...
NSX is great, but I can't justify paying that much for a car that old and would only be fun if you tune it enough to keep it up to date (susp., chassis, wheels, and power)

Is this going to be your only car/DD? If DD, I'd go with the s2000. But if you have another car and can spare to use this as a weekend car then NSX hands down.
Plans for the s2k would be wheels, suspension, supercharger, exhaust.
Personally I like both cars, but the car that made me fall in the love with sports cars was the NSX. The concept of a car that is solidly built, smooth to drive, comfortable, fuel efficient with high performance, and reliability (that last one is key) is a formula that is rarely duplicated.
I wouldn't count the NSX out as an option. And atually, since the NSX has been around for so long, there is alot of support for aftermarket mods and you may find some parts cheaper than you think. Maintenance would cost more than an s2k though. I recommend putting up a post over on nsxprime.com to get educated opinions as well.

For the same price, the S2000 will be in much better condition than the NSX. Ten years ago when I got my S2000 I was also looking at NSXes and the only ones I found under, IIRC, $45k had 50k+ miles, all the wear and tear you'd expect from such, collision damage, were in the snap ring failure range, etc.
A left-over, 0-mile, new S2000 should go for $27k or such, based on what people have reported here.
To get an NSX under $30k, you're talking '91 or '93 with 60k+ miles, based on a quick cars.com search. No telling what sort of condition those cars are in without seeing them in person, though.
If buying a car that old with that much mileage doesn't bother you - go for the NSX I'd say. I'd love to have one sitting next to the S2000 in the garage. But I'd only get one once I'm in the position to put down a lot more money for a MY02+ version. Or, at the minimum, at MY97+ version with the larger engine and 6spd transmission.
