Default Save Top Gear!

If there are any other fans of the show, please sign this online petition to voice your desire to keep the show on air. I'm sure you are aware that Richard Hammond was critically injured last week in a 300 mph crash, and although he's recovering well, the show's detractors are now trying to "downshift" Top Gear.

You know, the cars they drive are fun to watch, but the show is just not that great. It's way too British (no surprise there) and Clarkson can't drive an America car without going into some anti-America tirade.

You can think of Top Gear as a barometer of how the world (and europe) views American foreign policy and America. We may not realize it, but the rest of the world doesn't necessarily agree with us. In fact, much of the world DISAGREES with us.

Within weeks of the attack in Spain, their government was thrown out and all their troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan. Because of NATO, troops were drawn in from alot of countries into a fight that many people didn't really agree with, or care about.

And in the case of Britian specifically, the average brit is OVERWHELMING against the war in Iraq. Iraq is an american war, and britian got dragged into it. Blair is less popular in his country than Bush is in America.

You can't blame Clarkson for speaking is mind. He's outspoken, has an opinion and he has a show to vent on. Most people with something to say in his position would do the same if they could get away with it - and he does get away with it.

Hey you that's great, but when I watch a car review show, it would be nice if they'd stick to the car reviewing.

I don't need to hear that Clarkson thinks Americans are fat, stupid and subsist solely on fast food.
It's not like he just bashes Americans on the show.

He pokes fun at italian, french, german, british, and russian stereotypes too...why does it irrate you that he makes fun of american stereotypes if he does it to every other country too???

What irritates me is not that the show is anti american or anti german or anti anything, but that they spend less time reviewing cars than setting up fake situations for hammond, clarkson and may to bicker.

but americas ARE fat, mostly stupid and DO subsist mostly on fast food. why do you think theres hardly an obese people in the world other than here?

and i think his opinion on american cars is mostly accurate.

how many hondas do you see broken down on the side of the road?

let me tell you, a brand new mustang on the shoulder is a funny sight if you ask me....

From the episodes I've seen, they may have not been super informative, or even that funny, but they sure are entertaining.

As for the American bashing, I haven't really noticed it. I haven't seen many episodes either, probably about 10-20. I've seen them review a C6 Z06 and Clarkson really liked it. He complained about the obvious and all in all it was pretty informative.

As other people have stated, it is a european show and Clarkson makes fun of everybody, Americans included. With that in mind, it isn't surprising in the least that some Americans would be offended by some of Clarkson's viewpoints.

I just like to think of the show as a informal gathering of english "comedians" that really like cars.
