scion fixed price, true or not?
Just curious about the price with the scion tc or any scion in general, is it one price flat? no negotiating? The dealer I talked to explained scion's policy is that you pay for what you see listed, take it or leave it. Any scion owners here that dropped the price?
My girlfriend is in the process of picking up a White 2010 Tc base model, 5speed...19900 out of the door. Whats everyone think? Thanks.

I don't know if it's true, but when I went with my roommate to buy his tc, went to 5 dealers, all sang the same tune. I tried to use the well I'll go to the other dealer who offered me such and such, they said really, you should take it, may I ask which dealer so I can report them. Kind of a douche move I know. In the end we paid sticker for it anyway cuz back then demand was high and supply was low. But I do remember seeing some previous year ones sell at a discount, but wasn't much from what I remember.

Yes, it is true. Scions have $380-$800 profit. The goal behind the pricing "fix" was so dealers could focus on the customer and not the price. Since Scion appeals so greatly to younger buyers it was important for the brand to be customer focused since this is the opportunity to build brand loytalty. Salespeople who sell Scion are trained differently than the other salespeople at a Toyota dealership. It's called "Scion Certified" Basically they're trained to not rush the buying process, understand younger buyers and their buyer motives, and be more up to speed with newer technologies. The only place to do any negotiating is on accessories. The official Scion accessories recognized by the OEM have little margin, but the ones that the dealer puts on (tint, leather, and the like) are the areas where you can negotiate.

Well we finalized the deal and looks like we're picking it up. The girlfriend wanted a white tc 5sp and now she has one. Every dealer I contacted (about a dozen or so) explained the same "scion policy" so for the folks interested in buying a scion expect a "take it or leave it" attitude from the dealers.
Thanks for the input peoples

Saturn tried that crap when they came out. It didn't work so well for them. There IS always the trade in to negotiate on, and things like interest rate for the loan, accessories, services, etc.
