this was somewhat expected, after hearing how great the base car is, but seeing the numbers is just awesome

^Nope especially not for the money they put in. I agree with the comments that they should have tried just putting better tires on the car. I also think they should have gone with a more affordable tire. It annoys me when these magazines only ever use super expensive parts because they probably get them for free. I would have been much more interested to see Rs3's on it with an affordable wheels and tire package on there. I am not saying the volks aren't worth it but with everyone buying this car for the price tag I don't see alot of people dropping over $4k into wheels. Some enkeis or something would have been a more realistic track wheel.

Enkei RPF1's are a lot cheaper and a bit lighter than the Ray's. For the 17's, they come in just under 16 lbs. (around 15.5 or so).

No, not really impressed outright. Edmunds got a 1.0g skidpad (up from 0.89) on these tires. Tire Rack got an 0.97g skid pad with those same tires on a 2008 BMW 328i Coupe. Except even smaller size - 225/45/17. Pretty dang close results, IMO.

It's nice to know that the car doesn't fall apart when equipped with stickier tires, but not sure what else it tells us.

Perhaps you should read my BRZ review. I put on RPF1 with Z1 Star Specs, paid out of pocket. Cost less than half of what the Volk/AD08 setup cost. I don't have hard measurements as I'm not a magazine and don't have that kind of equipment, but I do have track results

^Thats the way to do it. I love that magazines always buy the tires that cost the most and the wheels that cost the most. Its not realistic. The car itself is supposed to be a good deal performance wise for the money. Just by adding those wheels and tires you are making a $25k car a $30k car. If you then compare it to other $30k cars its even less impressive.

I really have no interest in these until they bump the power a little bit from the factory. I am also hoping that they depreciate like crazy so I can buy one for cheap used and use it as a daily driver while the S remains the real sports car.
