So I got to thinkin....
Maybe Nissan does not intend to sell a boat load of GT-R's ever. Maybe they are taking the Dodge Viper approach. I mean the Viper is a blatantly fast car. Very capable. Its faster through the cones than a GT-R. Yes I know its not practical and has a shitty interior. But still, I hardly ever see them. Perhaps, Nissan just wanted to prove a point that they could beat out everybody at a fraction of the cost. But that 69k price point is just a pipe dream unless they plan on whoring out the GT-R.
I mean check this out:

Markups as high as $130,000??? That is Un-be-effin-leavable.

I can think of three options for Nissan and the GTR. I don't know which it will be depends on how many they make.
one: Nissan wants to make a profit on the car. ie. Corvette or M3, make it so that there is a profit per-car so the more they sell the more Nissan makes
two: make it for a loss. ie. Bugatti costs more to make plus R&D than they can ever cover selling just a few hundred cars.
three: somewhere in between which would be like the Ford GT or Carrera GT. ie. probably did not make much profit since they didn't sell enough cars. Probably the same with the Viper, NSX and such.
I would hope it's more like M3, 911, Corvette (etc..) which would be more insentive for Nissan to make more cars thus cutting out the supply/demand mark-ups.
I'm sure the Z06 had a mark-ups at one time now they are around with discounts since the supply has caught up to the demand. I'd like to see that with the GTR but that's unlikely if Nissan keeps the supply artificially low.

I guess we will soon see how much America really wants the GTR. I think this price makes it close to a 911 Turbo, and the point of the car was 911 Turbo performance at well less than 911 Turbo prices.
Carlos Ghosn was selected to turn nissan around and make money, not to build halo cars that lose money. He's said before that Nissan will make money on the GTR. I doubt he means indirectly via halo effect.
I don't ever expect to see GTRs on every corner; that is what the 350z is for, and let's face it, there aren't very many people looking to buy $70,000 sports cars anyways. Those that can afford it have a lot of options (and many that can afford 70k can afford much more).
I think Nissan will make as many GTRs as they can sell, but I don't expect them to flood the market either; it will take some time like the Z06 - a few years of markups and then it will settle in around the sticker price.

All speculation, we'll see how much they are later in the year. Let the first people getting them get raped. Stupid asses for paying more than MSRP.
If everyone would say fock you I'm not paying over sticker, we wouldn't have this gouging.

I didn't really have an opinion on GT-R markups before (perhaps I was the only person who didn't care one way or another?) and didn't think dealers trying to make a profit were evil or buyers willing to get it early were insane. But if someone pays $129K or even close, well, now I have an opinion. That's dumb.

I think nissan just underprice the GTR. it seems there is a trend to markup new limited cars. heck the s2k was marked up for the first 2 MY. however people would still pay the 5 to 10k markup. why? because even marked up $38k to 42k, the s2000 was still alot cheaper and better then everyone else. I remember all the dealers was hyping the sk2 as a limited production model that would only be available for 2 to 3 years. nissian left the door open by saying that it can produce more then 1500 if need.
