Took an '04 911 Carrera with my fat buddy in the car, it was just one small guy in the 911. He didn't look to happy when I beat him. He just drove onto the freeway with his tail between his legs.

I surely will miss the fun factor and many other things about the S, I still have huge amounts of respect for the S and always will. I will most likely buy another in a few years or so. For now, this STi is a great car. Not liking the turbo gas mileage though.

Press the pedal less, and you wont feel the pain as bad

do a full TBE, ECU, rear swaybar (if not both), and Pink springs (if springs)... then tell me what you think.... The ECU gives you tons of torque.

My car was 240whp/240wtq stock
260/260 with TBE
275/290 with Cobb Tuning Stage 2
290/308 with Cobb Tuning ECU runing a ProTuner map from Harman Motive in Torrance, CA.

All in 91 octane.

With 93 Octane, its not surprising to dip into 300/320

The best part of the ECU is the driveability. Boost hits a lot harder and lot lower in the band. How does 18psi at 3000rpm sound? The biggest difference will be... You will barely ever feel the absolute need to redline the car. 6th gear is a real gear. Racing on the freeway only requires a drop to 5th gear...

wow! I am glad someone posted about this, because I am considering selling my s for an evo or STi.

I like having more room (means more people can experience the quickness at a time ), also the ease of modding compared to the S.

I have been reading that the Evo handles considerably better than the STi, and is easier to modify due to the 4G as well as the FMIC.

what would yall recomend. also, would you consider evo/sti a step up from an s2000 or a step down?

The EVO is easier and cheaper to make fast. As you pointed out the 4G63 is stronge, has over a decade of engineering behind it, and is easy to work on (I4 vs. Boxster 4). The stock turbo is capable of getting the car into 11's with traps over 115 mph. That's pretty damn good.

On the other hand, the STi has a bit more class, that beautiful boxster rumble, less turbo lag, and a better parent company.

My experience so far with my EVO has been pretty good. I've only had a few problems with the car but it's the way that Mitsubishi handled the problems that will make this the last Mitsubishi I ever own. They're very quick to blame any and all problems on the customer (at least in my case).

The problems that I've had over the last 33k miles:
- Brake pad tranfer at 6k. Basically the rotors felt like they were warped. Mitsu quickly told me they weren't covered and that the cost of repair was inthe neighborhood of $120 to resurface the rotors. 6k!!! I've never had a car with warped rotors, and they're telling me that these ultra high dollar Brembos are warped at 6k and it's my fault!!! Lucky for me, the forums made me aware of the brake pad transfer issue and the problem was solved with new pads.

- The wing's carbon fiber started peeling. Mitsu took care of this problem.

- The clearcoat on my Brembo's is peeling. Mitsu quickly blamed me again. Saying that I must use harsh chemicals on the brakes when I clean them. Dispite the fact that I told them I use the same soap and water I use to clean the car. The brakes work fine but they don't look healthy and will likely be a pain to explain when I go to sell the car. The Brembo peeling isn't an isolated case. On a poll that I started at evom.net, 75% (~200 responses) of the 2003 owners are experiencing this...I guess we're all washing our brakes with acid.

In a nutshell, the car is great, drives better, and mechanically is very well built. It's Mitsubishi that has tainted the whole deal.

back to what? S2k? I didn't really want to get rid of it anyways... But when its been hit 4 times... you kinda get tired of looking at it.

STi? I wont be back. At least not for 04-06 and not as my daily either. Nothing like driving 100+ miles a day in a car with stiff coilovers, noisy brakes, loud exhaust and no sound deadening. If I had the money I would have kept it as a weekend car to have fun and track with. But I don't.

Why go back when I can go just as fast and have luxury to boot in my Legacy. FYI: Legacy has same motor as STi. swap turbo, intercooler, intake manifold, TGVs... your are good to go. There are two in my area (SoCal) sporting 20Gs and 320+whp.

I would go with the cobb stage 2 setup for an STI or WRX. Its relatively cheap and you get good power gains. As for a turbo upgrade for the STI, I would probably go with a 20g or aps sr55 turbo with their big front mount.
