Default starter bike

I have been entertaining the idea of maybe getting a used bike just for fun and toolin' around...nothin' crazy. I've ridden before, mostly dirt bikes, but a few 600CC bikes as well. I like the GSX-R 600 and the R6...but who doesn't? I was wondering if either of those are realistic or if they are too hardcore....

thanks for the input in advance

Both of those are very extreme "first" bikes. How much riding experience do you have? Personally, if I were to get a new/used 600 it would be a Kawasaki since they are a bit more comfortable for street-use. Yamaha also makes a bit less hardcore 600, it is deffinately more comfortable and cheaper too.

This is what I would do for a first bike.

I would suggest an F4I 600. I have my eye on one of those for my first bike.

If you have a level head and good throttle control you'll be fine on any 600cc bike.... if you can't control yourself definitely go smaller...

you might also consider an SV650

yes, your first bike should be covered in expensive plastic.

If you're going to pose with the bike, definitely don't get anything with lots of plastic, otherwise don't worry .... the bike world is very different from the car world, rarely will other bikers get together and actually look at each others bike, scuffed plastics are common, if it cracks, you didn't need it anyway.
