Default Stepping Down

Hey guys, I got a decent offer on my 03 954RR, so I think I'm gonna sell it. I'll need another bike right away, so I'm thinking about the 06 R6. Slipper cluth and fly by wire throttle sounds real good. I was finally getting used to the extra power on my 954 in the canyons, and wondering if it's a bad idea to step down to a 600. I've been thinking about riding track, and I'm thiking a 600 will probably better suit me as a novice track rider. Any suggestions both on stepping down or on 06 R6.

My last two bikes I bought slightly used, but the R6 will be brand new. I was wondering what it's gonna cost me with tax and fees. Do they still charge frieght on new bikes? Since the bike is brand new, they probalby won't deal much right?

No problem w/ that.

I'm considering getting the wife an '06 cbr600rr, she is currently riding an '03. Selling my '04 1000rr and buying more mods for the S. Thus becoming a 1 m/c family.

Nobody needs a liter bike.

600 is plenty of bike for canyons. i hang with m friends who have 1000's in the canyons no problem . A 600 can beat a 1000 on the twisties, but not the straights

Freq, let me know if you get the 06 for her. I have an 03 and was wondering if there is any huge differences between the two.

As for stepping down. I think a 600 is better suited for the track unless you have mad skills, which i think you said you don't. You can't go wrong with the 06 R6 either. Trust me, they won't be dealing on the bike and you can't have one for a few months now. I know several who have put d/p's on them so it'll be hard to find a stealership who stocks them

good luck

opinions on what handles better on the curves, the 954 or R6?

In other words, what would you prefer as a track bike 03 954 or 06 R6?

Trackbike = 600.

Cheaper to write-off.

Please...

Anyway, I personally don't like the handling of the 954 as much as it's competition. Watered down power curve too. Too much of a street bike. Nice bike - great quality, don't get me wrong, but it demanded way too high of an MSRP for its capabilities. If you jumped on any newer 05 or 06 bike, yamaha, suzuki, and even honda, 600 or 1000, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

You won't be disappointed much with the 600...power isn't that far down from the 954 it just requires you to use the gears a bit more whereas on the 954 you can be lazy an leave it in gear you probably would want to shift a bit more on the 600. I went from a 954 (totalled thanks to a guy in his mom's pontiac) to a 600. The handling is much more stable than the 954 (front end doesn't want to tuck as much) but I do miss the power from time to time, but not in the canyons. I really only miss the power rolling on the throttle on the highway. The GSXR750 is always a good choice...more hp than the 954 and better handling (same as the GSXR600). The new Triumph 675 is looking pretty killer too if you want something a little different.

For most of the track we have in the US, a 600 is almost always going to be the better of the 2 for track riding. 600's are smoking fast as it is. The new R6 looks very trick.

looks like Mach feels the same way...it won't beat it but the fact is most people aren't good enough to put a 1000 to its limits anyway so someone pushing a 600 hard is going to be similar to a rider who can't use all the 1000 power...and no one should be doing that on the street.

I'm an R6 fan but i think i like the 05 more than the 06 and would suggest maybe getting that model instead since you wouldn't have to wait and would definitely get a deal.

I think stepping down in power sucks so I'll suggest RC51...that's a better track bike than anything mentioned so far...and pretty cheap too.
