I actually have driven the Fit, and was impressed with its handling. It is better than one would expect.
I also like have the choice of which to drive, but when I have kids, the only choice would be the Fit. I'm a bit concerned with the lack of hp (118; with intake it goes to about 125), and the safety of it in terms of things like fwy merging (or am I stupid in this regard?).

I will probably have a kid to tote around in the next year or so and it will be interesting to see how much I get to drive the S once he/she arrives. I like my civic, but it's a nice treat when I get to drive the S after driving the civic most of the time. I can't imagine giving up the S2000 now and not having the option to go drive a fun RWD convertible when the weather is nice. And we don't even have the great weather that southern California has.
If safety is your primary concern (which it sounds like since you're talking about kids), go with the STI and don't look back. Get some sways and and AccessPort, and you're set (though I upgraded pretty much every suspension and drivetrain bushing available first, and it made a big difference).
I was in the same situation, looked at MS3 and STI and the safety and build quality of the STI is in another ballpark. The MS3 has suspect crash test ratings. The STI on the other hand, is like a tank. In fact, in many places firemen are trained specifically on how to get into Subarus after an accident, because even the jaws of life won't cut through the cage around the passenger compartment.

[QUOTE]You cannot fit children's seats in the back of a Fit unless you really cramp the people up front. We considered one until we tried to put our two kids' seats back there. The don't fit in the Fit.

Sounds like with some mods it'll be a solid car...

Hi Matt!
Man, you gotta be tired of me by now - I can't make up my mind.
Seems like everyone is saying sti, so I'll go take a look at one, and see how the 2010 prices affect the 2009s...

I just wanted to say that my boss at work has a MS3 and he loves it. He forwarded me this link about the safety of the car when he first got it.
