Default Super Brakes

Interesting article about a new type of system called EWB (electronic wedge brake) in Autoweek. Well, it's not new, as a matter of fact it was developed in the horse and buggy days.

No hydraulics (electric) and the system needs less than a tenth of the pressure required by a hydraulic system.

Each brake unit operates independently from the others and electronic stability control can be programmed to operate on a much finer calibration, without the typical pulsating effects.

They claim less than half the distance to come to a complete stop compared with standard brakes.

Wedge brakes are significantly lighter than today

I'm also wondering what happens if you have an electrical short or your battery gets disconnected. It's happened to me twice already.

Neat idea. They took the wedging concept of drum brakes and applied it to a rotor and caliper system.
