Default Supra vs S2000?

Just wondering how the Toyota Supra (the 4th gen) handles in comparison to the s2k. It's fairly well known that it's a good drag car, but how is it on the track and on mountain roads and Auto X? Is it nimble like the S?

Hoping that someone has either owned one, or seen them during track time.

Thanks for the help

At 700-800lbs more weight than the S2000, a Supra is never going to be as nimble as an S2000 - no matter how much tire you cram under it or how aggressive a suspension you put on it.

Can you set up a Supra to handle well? Sure. But a 3500lb car is just never really going to feel nimble.

would you say the feeling of a car being nimble is different from a car being able to take turns better than the S?

I mean I've heard Z06's and vipers can also turn better than the S, is the feeling of the car just different in comparison despite being able to turn better or as well?

AutoX: I run against a fairly well sorted 97 Supra, motons, and rubber so wide I can only dream. I usually beat it on raw time and cannot remember when I lost on pax time.

That said, it is a beautiful car. The owner is purchasing a Lotus, so it may be for sale soon!

The Supra Turbo is classed in A Stock in SCCA autocross, and is considered an also-ran there. The S2000 is pretty much the undisputed king of B Stock at the moment, and it's been proposed that it be moved to A Stock. AS and BS are so close together that I think it's reasonable to infer that the S2000's the quicker autocross car.

As aklucsarits pointed out, 700 pounds is a huge impediment to the car's chances in the tight stuff.

MK IV Supra best car ever made, ahead of its time

had throttle by wire, 6 speed, useful traction control, brakes that equal stopping times of best cars now and insanely sophisticated sequential turbo in 1993.

by far the strongest long block ever produced in production car handling upwards of 700-800 hp

Stock "handling" is superior to stock '00-03 S2000; it has feelsome steering, great adjustability and superior driver confidence. fantastic ride quality, unperturbed handling in bumpy curves.
On street or mountains superior. Road racing are excellent but overheating, complexity and costs are turn-off. For auto-X, see above.

i disagree. I've driven a friend's z32 with a lot of suspension work and it felt VERY nimble...

of course, this is a completely opinion based.

also, let's avoid using Autocross as the epitome of "best handling cars". It's good for low speed judgement, but, doesn't assess high speed handling... which is where the Supra excels.

Can you imagine a S2000 placing in top five in Speed's WC GT class? Supra did it.

Some people have done well with Supras in autocross... but, it's not exactly the best place to flog the car.

what's better?
reliability - Supra (toyota is unmatched, in most cases)
theft - Supra (Honda is well known for high theft)
unique - Supra
braking - Supra
handling - tie. The S2000 handles great at low speeds, where the Supra feels better at higher speeds
acceleration - Supra
looks - to me, Supra
value - S2000 (Supras are pretty pricey still)
daily driver - S2000

What's the difference between an 800 HP SUpra and a 1200 HP Supra?
