Default test drove sti and evo..big difference?!

I"m probably answering my own question here, but i test drove an sti (14k miles) and an evo (400 miles) and from a 10mph roll they were completely different cars. The Sti seemed MUCH faster. Everywhere i look i see almost identical times for these cars....it had to be the break in period right? Nonetheless, the difference was much more than i expected.

The US STI use a little bigger 2.5 motor from the RS and a bigger turbo. As for the EVO same motor from WRC and japan. detune power but the suspension made up for it. jus point and go with the evo.

What makes the difference on the butt dyno is the torque, thats what you are feeling. The evo runs 19 lbs of boost stock, trust me that car will keep pulling hard all the way to redline.

How about an EVO with bpu ( basic performance mods) vs a bpu STI ?

How do those two cars compare in terms of power? from 10 mph roll, top end power etc?

I have driven both. Overall, I was very surprised at the STi. Lots of power everywhere. Now, Im sure that the EVO is more mod friendly and also that an EVO with BPUs (especially a flash) will be a completely different machine than what I drove. But, stock to stock. The STi gets the nod from me. Overall, it feels more solid, better built.

STi: Feels like its own entity. Quick everywhere. Lots of torque. Almost no lag.
EVO: Noticeable lag. Feels like a suped up Lancer sometimes. Power goes away in the top end (Stock).

The soundtrack is nice in the EVO though.. the turbo sounds healthy.

Overall, I would take the Evo because of its price difference. you can have an EVO for 29 out the door if you go in at the right time. The STi is expensive... we are talking 34-35 out the door.

I like both cars but if I were given a choice or if it was up to my wife... we'd both take the STi... Actually.. we are thinking of replacing our Civic Si with a used STi.

with the evo or sti. comparing stock vs stock is almost useless since the type of people that buy these cars will certainly do the bpu mod...

I wonder how the cars compared modded.. hehe i guess i should be asking this on the evo - sti forums hehe

I have owned my Evo for 14 months now and have only spent $200 for a www.dynoflash.com ecu mail in flash..... it definately helped, but I don't have any proof.... the one day i went to the dragstrip to confirm, it was windy as hell..... i still got the same 13.4 in the wind that i got without wind the other times.

anyway..... as wombat stated.....you will be an experienced oarsman with all the shifting of the STI...... i think the 0-100mph is very close for both, but 0-130mph and the STI is about 3-4 seconds quicker....

the Evo has a HUGE (HUGE) jump from 4th to 5th gear..... but who cares... who races above 100mph anyway...

Evo's can be purchased for under $27k new if you look around..... i have not seen STI's for less than $29k... Evo has a radio though and much quicker steering....
