Tested a Fit
#12
I test drove the Fit this weekend too (there were like 15 other young couples shopping for Fits that day). Under 40 mph it really feels like you are driving a sports car.
Then you try to merge into highway traffic (~80 mph). Good luck if you don't have a lot of room to build up speed. At 80 mph you get more noise and darty, less stable handling.
But seriously, the handling at low speed is excellent. Acceleration is great off the line. 0-60 is 10-11 s though, and I imagine the 40-60 time must be half of that.
But all the room in back sold me! There is enough length to build a rail rack on the seat backs and store my 2 bikes upright + other sports gear. That much room! I figure I can set up all my triathlon stuff and bikes, camping gear, move the occasional large box, all inside a car which is still easy to park in San Francisco. I had been thinking of a Forester or a Jeep to do that, but didn't really want a bigger car because of the hassle.
I am now on the list to get a Fit Sport MT for MSRP. It will be something like 2 months at the current rate unless I find an MSRP Fit before then.

My father-in-law has a Fit Sport AT and I think it's a fantastic car, for a small ecomony car. I'm impressed with the handling, fit & finish, comfort, interiro space, and functionality, even if the power is a little lacking.
I seriously considered trading in my DD (Accord Coupe EX-L i4), but in the end couldn't justify taking the depreciation bath for a car only slightly more economical. Maybe the next-gen Fit, though.

I love my Fit as a daily driver for the S2000. I have even said that if someone offered me enough for my S that I would sell it and only have the Fit for awhile. It's a fun car to drive, can look nice with very little $, and gets good gas mileage. Ive filled the tank twice and am averaging about 31 MPG. And that is almost all city driving and includes times where Im running the car with the AC and not moving.

I second the Civic. My buddy just picked up an LX for $17,000 even last week, auto with a/c and power windows. I forget what the sticker price was...$18,500 maybe?

its a fantastic car around town, if i had money to make my s2000 not my daily driver, i would probably buy one of these
ive driven one around town and its a bargin for what you get
ive not taken it on the highway but people seem to agree that its not a place it shines
