Hi everyone, I've been seeing more and more of these on the road, and for the most part I think they look kind of blah. Very clean and simple, which I like, but they all look the same. Then I saw this front lip on my FB feed today:
The picture looks pretty incredible IMO - very subtle changes that make the car look much more aggressive. Looks like just tint, mild drop, wheels, and the lip. Does anyone here have a model 3, modded or otherwise? This kind of makes me reconsider what our next car might be - being so vain and all
Basically, most cars look quite a bit better with wheels, aero and a drop. The Model 3 is no different, though I don't find it that good-looking regardless.
I like the looks for the whole Tesla line up and especially the Moedel 3. Really tasteful inside and out. My aunt has a loaded one in a metallic white that is quite striking. The torque makes it feel quite powerful off the line and is a hoot in general to drive. I liked it more than I thought I would. I would suggest driving one some and see if it works for your lifestyle.
I like the stock Model 3 looks better than that kit, but I am probably in the minority on this forum.
I think it all depends on what you are going to use it for. To me they aren’t cheap and due to the weight it’s never going to be a pure driver’s car. As an EV driver of 6.5 years, a slew of EV’s are coming from virtually every mfr. in existence. If needing a daily, much less expensive options are coming, and fast. Should be multiple models each year.
Guy I know posted this photo of his, looks good with basic/subtle mods (those are Tesla optional wheels). I wouldn't say it's amazing but I think it looks good - certainly better than the new M3!
I will say, I finally drove a Tesla in "anger" this year lol. My friend let me take his Model 3 for an autox run at a practice event. I had ridden in them as an instructor before, but had not driven one. I will say it was a LOT more fun than I expected. Acceleration was mind blowing, especially without the normal audible queues we are used to hearing. It handled a lot better than I expected. I mean, you can feel the weight, but it is so low it is quite amazing how well it handles. And his was on stock tires.
Maybe not what we consider a "drivers car" and I am not jumping to get on the EV wagon quite yet, but you can certainly have a lot of fun in this one. The guy has also camped in it, so with the seats down it is pretty usable in that sense (he is around 6') .
It certainly wouldn't replace the S2000 or my wife's miata, however it would be a great replacement for either her '13 fit sport or my focus st. Plus, we have the garage space to park it overnight and charge it.
It is on the pricey side when compared to a traditional combustion car, but compared to other electric cars it kind of does it for me.

He's got a good sense of humor! License plate is so true
After test driving one, I think it's pretty hard to beat for a daily. For a while I had my E90 M3 which was an excellent single car for all purposes, but now that I have a dedicated fun car in the Lotus, my daily can be a bit more focused on the day-to-day drudgery of commuting and doesn't have to attempt to be the end-all, be-all of limit handling and sensation in a practical package.
Within that mission brief, the Tesla is quite compelling. One thing I can't stand about automatics and turbocharging (especially combined) is the lag when getting on the throttle. Can't. Stand. It. With no gears and instant torque, the Tesla has as much power as you want, instantly. And with AWD, it's like a cheat code for zipping right where you want to be. And the Performance model is QUICK. I personally wouldn't trust "Autopilot" above a certain speed, but for sitting in crawling traffic I was amazed how quickly I got acclimated to just letting the car take over since I'm not going to hurt anyone going 5mph.
Depending on my commuting needs once I need to be back in an office, I am strongly considering one.
I found the 3 fun to drive, with some cool tech and features, but just as much chintzy and gimmicky stuff. I'm not against getting a Tesla, but I was able to get a lot more car buying a used ICE lux sedan, for a lot less money.
I also feel that Tesla uses it's customers as beta testers. Quality control is all over the place It puts it's product out and continually refines it for better or worse. There's a pretty good Youtube video that shows how a 2018 varies from a 2021 in subtle ways.
Maybe next gen for me, or alternatives like the Polestar 2.
