Perhaps I need to read the whole thread, but I feel like a more practical car full of electronic amenities will better suit a condition where you are sitting in the car more than driving it. Everyone loves a high end audio system, cool gadgets to play with. All aspects of what is missing from "kid" cars.
this newest WRX has a lot more of that stuff. The sound system in my 11 was awful, there were no LCD screens anywhere. Now it has 3 (I believe) and the harman kardon stereo is supposed to be decent. They have really fixed some of the embarrassments of the previous generation and made the car more of an all around good car rather than just a performance oriented econobox.

The Mazda is a perfectly good car if that's what floats your boat, but I would not get the WRX. They have a lot of well-documented problems, perhaps just as many as BMWs.
That's a false statement to make. The new 2015 (it's already available for purchase) has not been out long enough to have well any documented problems. It's engine is very similar to the one that has been in the Forester for around 2 years now without incident. I'm not giving Subaru a free pass here - as a former BRZ owner I read in detail plenty of issues.

However there's no point in unfounded fear mongering here.

OK, obviously I wasn't talking about cars that have only been out a month or so! I was unaware that there had been such a major update for 2015. :tipwink
