Default took viper to Maple Grove yesterday - git r done!

only got 3 runs... place was way too crowded with racers (teeth optional for sure)..... and it wasn't nearly as warm as i was expecting so after sitting for 2 hours my quick burnout didn't warm up the sport cups.... first run was 2.135 60' with 11.954ET @ 125.32 (banging 3rd gear rev limiter)... second run about the same but a 12.055 @125.54.... best run of the 3 was my last which was 11.937@123.22..I did get a 2.017 60' on the last run.... my 2nd to 3rd shift was not super smooth on the last run....... so with some more runs there is probably an 11.7 in there at 125 but with as cold as it was and the long waits between runs i was happy to be in the 11's.

Looking at the magazine times, i was close to what they get for 09 ACR..(mine is all stock)... i guess the difference in sequential and actual manual is about a second in the qtr mile... seems like the 458 Ferrari's are about 1 second faster with similar weight, hp, etc...

Probably more of a function of getting lots of runs in a short period of time and getting used to the car PLUS it having a faster-shifting transmission. With something like a 458, you don't need to be a great driver - it launches and shifts for you, if you want.

That's still pretty bad ass.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying this but drag racing is harder than people give it credit for. Sure, it doesn't take a ton of skill once you get going but launching without rev limiters and the like is tricky to dial in.

I took my turboed Miata to the drag strip a couple of times and it was particularly challenging. Short wheel base, plus short swing axle length on the rear, plus old tires made for some rather Shakespearean runs: full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Haha.

Seriously, my best 60 foot was a 1.7 but most were over 2.0 and one was like 2.7. Sure, I could blame it on the bald tires or the crappy track (Orlando) but I think drag racing just isn't my sport.

(I'm exaggerating a bit. I have had some good runs too).

Thats awesome that you brought it out to the drag strip! First time I went 11s it was against an older generation viper . I wish I only had to shift twice, lol. Shifting into 5th blows for 1/4.............. Have any videos?

Don't forget 458s are mid-engine, so of course they'll be a bit faster off the line - regardless of launch control.

Probably granny shifting and not double clutching like you're supposed to.

I'd like to see what I would do on slicks. Those trap speeds are pretty damn quick!

Some nice times you got there. I don't see 10's being impossible with slicks and a little more track time.

Also, I live about ten minutes from Maple Grove. Teeth optional is a very true statement. Lots of rednecks around those back areas, haha.
