Sup guys, im takin a bike class this fall and with that im considering purchasing a bike . I read around this forum and most would recommend a sv650 for a beginner. I would want a bike that handles exceptionally well(track wise), has great looks and style, fast(fast enough to be respected by other bikes), and last a period of time(longevity wise). What would u guys recommend. Thanks.

The sv650 is a very capable track bike. In the hands of an experienced rider it will out perform a full blown sport bike with an ok rider on it. (much like anything)

Those are great bikes, but if you've never ridden before, and plan on taking an MSF class, buying a bike and taking it to the track; unless you really have your head screwed on correctly (ride these bikes with the respect they will demand of you as a first time rider), I would not suggest either of them as a good option.

That SV650 will be plenty of bike for you to both enjoy now, and grow into. When you find yourself wringing the snot out of that SV650, and still wanting more (on the track, and in areas other than the straights), then invest in a good open classer.

Well you all know my advice. But it stands repeating: For the new rider there is no such thing as too much hp!

You sagely divined the most important factor in deciding on a new bike: LOOKS! I think a R1 or GSX-R 1000 is a perfect bike for a person who has absolutely no experience on a motorcycle.

Now a lot of haytas are going to tell you get a chick bike like a SV 650, but F the Mother Fo
