The Truth about Cars just reported on finding evidence of another TypeR variant, and now the fun begins- when, how much, what won't be included?

They think no body kit, smaller rims and tires, no satnav, basic HVAC, perhaps basic seats (NOOOOOO- the typeR has THE best seats i've ever sat in), but includes the same lusty engine/transmission. but what about the suspension settings- comfort/sport/R+?

I'll be the first in line- this is the one that will tempt me from my EM1 after all these years.

Temple of VTEC Rumors and News - 2018 Civic Type R to be offered in two trim levels(?)

There are a few schools of thought on this:

1. "Lightweight" Type R - none of the unessential parts/options (manual seats, no nav, lower spec sound system, etc) to lower weight with perhaps a few additional "performance" lightweight bits - no real cost reduction, though. It'd be a "hardcore" Type R.
2. "Stripper" Type R - lower-spec tires, perhaps smaller wheels, no "luxury" items, non-adjustable suspension, etc, in an effort to lower the cost but perhaps suffer some performance reduction as well. Kind of like a 95% Type R and 90% of the price.

TRADITIONALLY, they'd do version 1 (Type S, Zanardi, etc).

 

the overall good news; this should abate the ADM/markup on all other future CTRs.. its ridiculous what the dealers are asking for them. I wouldn't mind a stripper version with smaller wheels, Still unsure what made them put on 20" wheels on a fwd econo-tuner....

 

there's a fellow in our town who came to cars and coffee with the 2 other typeR's in the city (of 70,000). He just didn't trust running without a spare- so bought a spare 20" ctr (for $1800/1 rim- which takes up nearly the whole trunk) but the OEM tires weren't even available- so he went with another Conti tire. That single tire and rim cost him more than the 18" combo bama dave bought.

Buy your typeR in Canada- dealers can't mark them up…and you'll pay US dollars and save another 20%.

CAD MSRP is about $43K, so that's about $35K USD right now, if you get the "exact" exchange rate (roughly $1.25 for every CAD). Your speedo will be wrong but the price will be right in line with US MSRP, which is a steal right now.

Of course, you have to find one first! They're not that plentiful up here. Local dealer was selling a used one for $2K more than MSRP. As you noted, they aren't allowed to mark them up BUT they are allowed to add packages and accessories and details to boost the price...

 

It's equally as unexciting as the launch.... AWD and more power, hmmm. Now we're talking.

 

Cutting edge changes all time. This car will be obsolescent before spring.

I suspect cheap seats are fitted since they're going to be trashed by serious modifiers anyway.

Mid 30's I'd buy a C6Z for a track car before some stripped out CTR.

 

That's great. In 10 years time, when the CTR is in the mid 10's someone else is going to make the same claim against some brand new car too
