Its my understanding that VANOS can infinitely advance valve timing, but it can't change duration or lift like VTEC.

The big advantage of VTEC is probably cost in the short run (initial price) and long run (mileage).

that's right. vanos changes the PHASE of the camshafts. like what the "i" in i-vtec does.

valvetronic is the new system that continuously varies valve LIFT. Duration isn't adjustable by itself, but the more the lift, the longer the duration essentially. VTEC is a set of 2 lobe profiles while valvetronic has one lobe, but the rocker ratio changes so that the valves can go anywhere from not opening to being open very long and very high. It's a cool system but very complex, heavy, and expensive.

I don't think the E90 325 incorporates valvetronic. I think it is single vanos while the 330 is double vanos+valvetronic.
