Vehicle purchasing decision ?
Hello all !
I am presently new to this forum, i just have a few questions that may be bias to hondas
No objection
I recently joined the USAF and am going to be spending lots of time on the east coast and I just sold my supercharged cherokee...
Not enough spunk for me, all aside I am looking for a automobile thats preferably all wheel drive due to the fact that I will be spending quite a bit of time in cold climates.
I have a limited budget of 25k
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !
I am seriously considering a s2k since it is reasonably priced and is a 2-seater.
I am one to waste every waking minute working on my engine so the 25k includes possible modifications ?
Also how well does a s2k handle in cold climates ? ice etc...

You say you want an AWD car but you're looking at an S2K?
At around 25K if you don't mind RWD you can have:
-2006 M Roadster
-2005 Boxster S
-Practically brand new S2000
-E46 M3
-2002 911
There are tons of options at this price point...
If you want AWD the cars will be less fun to drive but you'll have tons more choices.
Obviously you need to tell us what you like in a sports car.

I have never had my own ''sports'' car only a jeep cherokee rwd with an avenger supercharger. It was quick but no sports car. The jeep was my first auto and I had it for years because it was cheap and easy to maintain.
A few things I like in a sports car would be preferably an inline engine, hardtop perhaps, rwd or awd ?
Ill be completely honest I have never had my own sports car, thus I have little criteria for a sports car just as long as I am able to put hours of works into its powerhouse. Also maybe a easy to maintain reliable car as well. for example I wouldn't like a car that would cost 400+ for a water pump..
Thank you for the reply.

I highly suggest you spend a few hours on this website:
www.edmunds.com
Tons of info on different kinds of cars.
If you want a reliable car that's easy to work on and fun to drive there are a few good choices out there, but you need to see if you don't mind a stiff suspension, loud engine, small cockpit, etc...

having spent back east, I'm not sure an s2k would be my first choice if it were my only car. If I had a DD in addition, then yes.
for a quick DD, you might want to look into WRX, used STI, Evos for awd.

If you don't mind me asking what is a DD ?
And thanks Jacques I will def look into edmunds as it sounds like you know more than I do about sport cars.
For a loud cockpit is what I am used to as I was always fond of a rather loud ride in my jeep...no comparison.
Does a stiff suspension mean an uncomfortable ride across country due to my family living in arizona I must travel to and from.

Ohh I have just read a few reviews and have come to realize that legroom and headroom are an issue I must take into account for I am 6'2''
I have personally never sat in an s2000 but if possible could someone provide some closure on headroom because I have read that its comfortable for someone under 6 ft. If this is true then an s2000 is not exceptional for me especially since I will be taking long trips.

For awd I'd buy a Legacy 2.5GT, mod it with the Cobb chip, maybe go further with the STI intercooler, etc. or a 3 Series awd - especially if you'll be driving it cross country.
For a sports car, I'd look at a Boxster S, Z4, or other larger roadsters. S is an option, but at 6'2" its tight, and modding is expensive - there are basically two things that you can do that are worth the money - gears and forced induction.

Not sure if I'd take an s2k from the east coast to arizona regularly, teh car is comfortable, dunno if it's that comfortable.
You could find a lot of good used s2ks in ap1 or 2 form for under 20K, good bang for the buck.
