Default VW R32!

Just wondering why the VW R32 is killed off after only less than a year of production? According to Car and Driver, it is dead as of MY2005. Can someone explain?

The Golf platform that the R32 is built on is dead. In Europe they already have the Mk V Golf. There will be a new version, the R36 (3.6 liter), coming in 2006 or so. The R32 was only released in the US because of the insistence of enthusiasts and journalists who drove it in Germany. I would have bought one, but it took forever to get here, so I got my Evo instead.

they're slower than the S, but not slow. 6's in 0-60 and like a low-mid 14 in the quarter. It was a great autocross car. It's a bit heavy, like 3400# but still tossed well.

The R32s were meant to be limited production from the start.

Plus, it's about time VW updated the Golf.

R32s get their asses kicked at the track. I think it's a decent street car, but I think it'd end up in a comparo against the Matrix before you'd see it in a comparo with an Evo or an STi.

^ Obviously you haven't seen the latest AutoWeek - they liked the R32 more than the EVO RS.
