Default what a bargain from VW!!!

I was in a VW dealership the other day and saw a sign about the 2004 VW 1.9 Liter Turbo Diesel. It apparantly needs a special oil that runs for the bargain price of $15/quart. I asked if it only needs one oil change a year but was told that oil changes were required every 15K. Why would anyone buy one of these cars????

I guess the money you save on fuel can go towards oil changes?

I used to work at Sears Auto Center and we were never told about 'special oil' for diesel engines. I think they're just yankin' your chain.

Because TDI's are cool and worth the hassle to many?! They even have a whole ten extra horsepower for 2004 in US Golfs and Jettas. It's not like anyone's forcing TDI owners to pay $15 per quart...

TDI Club Oil FAQ.

I found Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 for eighteen bucks a gallon at gouldings-oil.com which at least establishes a ballpark price more reasonable than adb280z's VW dealer.

Here are some retail sales outlets.

I use Rotella Synthetic in my CRF250R, it's a great oil even for demanding gasoline applications. (supposedly competitive w/ Mobil 1, but much cheaper)

I can deal with $15 a quart if I only have to change oil once a year.

The TDI are great, reliable vehicles for the money.

Eh, no actually the VW scheme is cheaper.

$15:15k = 1:1

$5:4k = 1.25:1

It will cost you $0.25 per thousand miles more with your Mobil oil.
