Pretty much. My first thought was WRX as well, but then you look at mpg, and you start shuffling the deck.

So the Countryman gets 25/31 mpg and the WRX 19/25. But the Mini has a 1.6L engine putting out 181 hp and the WRX a 2.5L engine with 265 hp

Yeah I would still take the WRX.

This is where I ended up. WRX is fun, Mini is still fun, but 100 hp down, but gets you the extra mpg.

I bought Mingster's WRX and I can get 26/27 highway in the summer months. He put new injectors/turbo/cobb stage 1 etc.

Although I have the 2.0L, I hear they get better mileage than the 2.5L.

Waiting for the new body to come out or I might get a BMW 135

Can anyone think of anything else?

Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is fun, inexpensive AWD - but has horrible MPG. What about Audi A3? Very tunable engine, from what I hear.
