Default What to get for $5k or less

Hey well my GF is trying to get a car for $5k and less. Also has to be a 4 door car with some room if possible. I would like to see her get a $10k or less car. But she needs one in the next 6 months and does not make as much as i do. So that is all she can afford. I was looking at honda and toyota for there lasting power but they all have like 150k miles if not more. She needs the car to last a year or two. Any ideas out there for us?? I found some good deals on galants with 66k miles for $4900. And a lot of cavalers out there. Any body have experence with these. I can work on a engine somwhat and i could help her but i want her to buy this car on her own. I think its good to start out buying ur car on ur own and working to buy a nicer one down the road thanks

We used to call them "Cadavaliers" due to the horrible crash test ratings.

you could easily get a MY95-01 Vdub's at that price range but have to watch out on little issues here and there... that's from my personal experience.
otherwise, go with the safe route and get her a corolla or civic.

2000-2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, Lancer, or Galant. Hondas and Toyotas still quite pricey so might not be in your price range.

I have done no research whatsoever, but how much do older Hyundai's go for? Don't they have a 10 year warranty? just food for thought, it might break down but at least you will get it fixed for free

MkIV (1999-2005) VW Jetta or Golf? I had one for a few years and it was a solid car. The TDI's (diesel) will get 40+ mpg and last forever.
