With the IS-F and M3 being your ideal cars, sounds like you're in the market for a luxury/performance type car. Do NOT get the Elise then. Going by your list, go for the Z4Ms. (And look at a Cayman S as well.) Heck, even look at a CTS-V (although I have no idea how much they cost used.)

I don't know dude, seems like you have some serious issues to work out... (Saki GT is urging me to use more emoticons to show that I'm being humorous)

Honestly, these are wonderfully reliable, beautifully built and quite capable sport cars, and they're beautiful to look at day after day. Just buy a SC or TC, start with a mild build and try and keep it reliable.

I want a used Cayman, but after putting the roots SOT on I am having to much fun to care about switching cars.

I have got a fast car with low miles, I don't have to take the hit on selling a used car in a down market, most of the depreciation has been taken so it will retain what is left of its value for several years, its paid for, I don't have to pay sales tax on a new car, my tags are low and so is the insurance. In my case, going FI was a perfect solution.

I could have the Cayman but would have to bump a trip to Vegas and one to Hawaii each year to go with a newer car. Instead I get my fun toy and the extra vacations for the same dough. Or a new set of scuba gear, or install a lawn sprinkler system. Or a 250 Ninja for giggles. You get the drift. One more expensive toy, or lots of cheaper little ones.

happy you brought this up. i'm in the same boat, would love more ommph without having to turbo the S. I own a stock 2006 S with 40,000 miles, a seller on craigslist wanted to trade me his original owned 2004 Z06 commemorative edition corvette with 12,000 miles for my S plus I give him an additional 7600 cash. His car needs 4 new tires which cost approx. 1600., the z06 is a hardtop, have you ever considered the z06, what would you guys do, is this a fair deal? thanks in advance

I wouldn't consider a Z06, I think a regular C6 is plenty, plus it has the targa or convertible.
