Exc cond....since the dealer is only making 500 the above invoice plus about 985 in hold back what would be an approx for the trade? I know im going to get low balled b/c its a domestic/ plus the 05 redesign, but any imput would be really helpful...i have a bit of negitive equity so im trying to figgure out if i can afford the new s2000

Looking at Edmunds. They list the trade-in at about $19,700.
Have you thought about selling it yourself? They list it around $22,900. But then there's the tax on the S. Sales tax on 30k at your local rate or sales tax on the difference between the 2 cars. Getting screwed is always part of the equation.

yes, that's just what dealers do. that's the way it is. with them selling you a car at that price, don't expect them to play the fiddle for you on the trade.
trading in cars is a convenience, and you pay for that convenience. of course, i would accept NO less than the edmunds/kbb trade price (many will offer less, fight for the right trade price at least), but don't expect them to pay more. they will more than likely sell it at auction, and there is NO way they will take a loss.
the only way they would even consider offering more is if they were 100% sure they would sell it themselves. most cars go to auction, though.

I think the best trade in's are simply "junkmobiles." I personally would stay away from trading in a car that you still owe money on unless you have the finances to afford a higher car payment.
I bought MY00 used and put $1000 down plus I got $1500 for an old Dodge Caravan my dad had...I didn't think I'd even get $1000. Dealers are more likely to give you better trade money on a cheaper vehicle.

as frank says, kbb lists it at 19.7K trade in.
you should fight for that. i would never let it go for 17.
LIST IT PRIVATELY. a GT would likely sell within a month, for a MUCH better price...edmunds says 22.9. I would almost certainly think you'd get 21 if you wanted to sell it quick.
you'll be paying about $5K for the convenience of letting the dealer sell it for you. that's a year of payments on your S.

I checked Edmund's again. You said your Mustang is a "Premium"? They list only one "Premium" model as a Mach 1. A 2003 with 19k miles in clean condition with your zip, I get almost the same numbers as I got with my zip in NY. A regular GT coupe lists closer to the numbers that you came up with. Big difference. So which one do you have??
