i bought a 99 v6 accord and want to trade it in or sell it privately.
when and where do i collect tax and on what?
if i trade in say for 15,000 do i collect tax on the 15,000? dealer told me i dnot collect tax and i just pay tax on the difference between price of s2k and trade in. not sure.

 

I've done this before in NYC so I can positively state that if you trade it into the dealer you will not pay tax on the agreed upon trade in amount. That's why I did it. Selling it yourself just brings up so many more headaches and in the end you save almost nothing unless the car is really in demand.
