but for under 5k if you want to stick with the Honda's look at a stock 99-00 SI you can even find some EP3's for around that price. But if you are looking for just a straight forward DD like that 98 I def wouldn't pay over 2.5k in really good condition, atleast go for 99+ civic or an EX model

5-speed E30 325i (1988-1991) coupe.
Easy to work on like a civic. Tons of scrap parts everywhere due to over 2.5 million of them being produced. Many parts are directly compatible bolt on replacements with later model E36s and E38s. Classic look, and isn't your generic civic, corolla (ae-86 not included), camary, accord, DD vehicle.
Also, RWD, unlike any of the others mentioned above. And, if you really get creative, M50/S52 motors drop right in and bolt directly to the getrag 5-speed trans.

I agree on the 99-00 SI. I also agree with the e30 BMW's. You can't go wrong either way, they both go for cheap and you'll always get your money back when you sell them again since they're basically as cheap as they can get.

99-00 SI isn't happening for under 5k. You're lucky to just find an EG hatch in good condition for that price. Trust me, I tried. Likewise, if you want an E30 with no rust and <250k miles be prepared to either look for a while or pay more. I ended up going with a Miata.
I would not dd a civic or integra for three reasons- every douche nozzle will try to race you or rev on you (only a minor reason) higher insurance premiums due to theft and the fact they are constantly stolen or broken into. You shouldn't have to worry about your dd getting stolen/vandalized. I would recommend something larger. Something like a mid 90's Tacoma (4 cylinder gets decent mileage) or a mid-late 90's accord. It's a good feeling to be able to carry something larger than a toaster lol.
