its like the Google car buying service. There's a lot of scams on Cars.com talking about their are in the military and they will ship the car for free, selling it because they have to move.

In life, when it is too good to be true...it usually is

Because my brother-in-law insists on calling them so I figured that he would be more likely to believe me that it's a scam if I could tell him what they're going to say before they say it.

Tell us what happen okay? I just saw an ad on ebay about a yellow 1999 Ferrari F355 spyder with automatic transmission with 26k miles asking for $56k, and the car was in excellent condition, at least aesthetically. Too bad I don't have that kind of money still.

The price for the 1999 F335 sounds about right, +/- 10% of market price, making it a plausible sale situation. However the price for the Porsche referenced in the OP is essentially 70-75% off the market price. In the year 2011, it takes only 10 seconds to look up the market value of any car for free, and therefore any reasonable person would recognize that no one would sell their car for 75% off. So something fishy is clearly up with such an ad.

I have mixed feelings when it comes to cars and Ebay. One part of me thinks it is just as likely to be a scam as anywhere else, and the other side says that if the seller has a few hundred if not a thousand transactions, and most are as a seller, and 95+% are positive then you are probably dealing with a legitimate seller. (Probably being stressed very intentionally.)

Be prepared for the run around. These situations always end with you paying money and never receiving a car in the end.
