Default Why Can't Honda Do It?

Lexus is advertising its IS-300 sedan starting at $29,980.

Infinity can sell you a G35 for less than $30k (if you don't want leather seats).

You can drive away in a 350Z from a Nissan dealer for less than $30k.

Entry level cars from BMW and even Mercedes-Benz sell for prices just a little higher.

All the above are REAR-DRIVE vehicles with great 6-cyl engines.

Why can't Honda/Acura compete with a true sport sedan or coupe? Even their supposed All-Wheel-Drive vehicles are really front-drive with some rear drive capability, but ONLY IF THE FRONT WHEELS START TO SLIP!

Will Honda ever change?

IMO, I think one of the reason Honda doesn't have incentive based sales (other than the Accord & the Civics) is because of the production capacity of Honda. Compared to Toyota, or domestics, Honda is a small car company. Smaller even than Hyundai. I still believe Honda/Acura gives consumers a lot for their money. Some people complain lack of "options" for Hondas & Acuras. Well, most are standard equipment. Yeah, the cars listed by you from Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti are lower in price, but if you want the optional equipments, the price shoots up dramtically. I'm not even going to go into BMW & the Benz for options. Just my .02.

What is it about REAR-WHEEL DRIVE and authentic sports car handling that you don't understand?

Hey Man,

No need to get testy. What's your complaint exactly? First of all, Honda/Acura does not have a All-Wheel-Drive Coupe or Sedans in production. The only "supposed All-Wheel-Drive vehicles" are the CRV, Pilot, and the MDX.

Are you saying that the S2000 is not a "authentic sports car"?

Please help me understand.

Nope. What I said was, "All the above are REAR-DRIVE vehicles with great 6-cyl engines. Why can't Honda/Acura compete with a true sport sedan or coupe?"

I would probably say because they don't have to. Honda seems perfectly content selling just about every car they can build, barring the new Civic Si, without 0% financing and thousands in rebates. If Honda ever decides they want to compete in that arena rest assured they will bring out a car to dominate.

I would say it is like saying "Why can't Honda compete in the full size truck market."

Why change a good thing if it's selling?
Honda/Acura would get all the buyers who don't want rear wheel drive cars.
Have u ever been stuck in snow with ur BMW 3 series or 7 series?
I never saw an Acura stuck on the side of the road because of bad weather.
Granted they should have made the CL a rear wheel drive car though.
I guess that's why they came out with the TSX.
Start small and see how it turns out a safe bet.
