Default Why is the top up?

I don't understand people that own convertibles and never drive with the top down. This is my third convertible and if it isn't raining or below 50 degrees, the top is down. I have three people in my area with convertible Sebring's. I have not once seen them with the top down. A family friend has the Lexus. You'd never know her car is a hardtop convertible. A client of mine also has the Lexus. I've never seen the top down. One of the sales reps that calls on me has a convertible mustang. I've seen the top down once. I just happened to be going to lunch with him and made him put it down.

It can be 75 degrees without a cloud in the sky and 40% humidity and 90% of the convertibles I pass have their tops up. This isn't sunny California where the novelty may wear off (as if) but Ohio. We don't get many days like that.

I was driving up to Virginia from Atlanta yesterday and the weather was beautiful. I quit counting the 'verts with their tops up. Mustangs, Camaros, BMWs, Sebrings, And even an S2000.

A little north of Charlotte, NC I saw a pretty menacing cloud but I could see the other end of it so I didn't bother to put the top up. I drove through the shower and the only thing that got wet was my elbow.

Interestingly, I passed an older guy in a Z3 (with a full padded rollbar) and he had his top down too. We kind of looked at each other and I just moved along.

Now I have the strangest sunburn you've ever seen:
head
neck
left arm up to shoulder
right arm up to imaginary short sleeve
right knee

Oh well, the top still stays down

I don't think it's humanly possible (or healthy) to drive with the top down in 100+ degree weather in one of the most polluted cities in the states...

The only times I take my top down are when it's night and cool, on a run (sometimes)... I guess that's about it...

This will be my problem too. I don't like the sun boiling my flesh This is one of the factors that is making me rethink buying an S2000. I mean I LOVE the car, but if I am just going to have the top up with the A/C on whats the point of buying a convertible

I have got to do that at least once. Driving with the top down in a nice rain is one of those must-do-before-dying things.

Ever think that some people bought the car for it's p-e-r-f-o-r-m-a-n-c-e. Also, I errr, don't need a tan . It's downright uncomfortable in the middle of a 95 degree day baking in the sun. Now in the evening during the summer.....

Hey 'dreamer', you do NOT want to be driving this car (around town) on a really hot summer day with the AC on full blast. With the heatsoak, and the power loss from the AC, man talk about anemic. I use the the ole tin top when it's really hot. It's got just a touch more torque and can take the heat better.

I sometimes find myself not in the mood to have the top down. Say- in the morning on the drive to work - I'm still waking up so the last thing I want is my top down. I don't even listen to my music very loud in the morning.

I also didn't have it down last night, because I got a horrible sun burn from having it down (how ironic!), so the last thing I wanted was the sun beating down on me

I got the car for it's performance, being a convertible was just a bonus.

i don't like drivin with the top down on the highway. I often drive from college park to baltimore and back and 45 min of 80mph wind is too much for me. Any other time i've got the top down....
