Looking for something to replace the M3. I've got 2 small kids & they are slowly destroying my back seats. I test drove the 545i & loved it but think it is dawg ugly. The power was on par with my ///M and the active steering kept a smile on my face. I also tried out the X5 and really enjoyed it until taking the onramp onto the autobahn. Those 5000 lbs do not like to turn. Plus me and an suv just don't mix(whenever I have to drive the wife's 4Runner, I usually get pissed at its horrible driving dynamics).

So for 545 money I can get a gussied up Ford. I've heard a couple horror stories on reliability, but I've dealt with crappy reliability in my M3 so whats new? There was a mid life face lift and $4k Jaguar reduction for the 2005 model year...

Thanks!

How about a Legacy GT sedan or Forester XT?

Fantastic car, a bit soft when pushed but very capable.

The only issue I have is that I don't fit in back -- in fact anyone over 5'8" will feel cramped. Not an issue for kids. I highly suggest you test drive one.

my dad has the 4.0

no major problems

I hate the transmission though. Feels like it takes forever to downshift on the highway. And it has just developed a small rattle in the dash area that we cant figure out.

I love what Subaru is doing for itself. Unfortunately, (since I'm stationed overseas) I'd have to ship an American spec car over from the U.S.

Since there is a local Jag dealer selling American spec cars at invoice, that's why I'm interested.

I say look into an Audi S4 or Mercedes C32/C55 AMG if you need a fun 4-door. Or if you want a step up in luxury, a Mercedes E500 offers similar R Type-R performance for the same price.
