I don't have the M Roadster but the M Coupe model, which is close enough.
I love it! Great daily driver. Plenty of power and torque. Good handling, better than the E46 M3 but not as nimble as the S2000.
You can get one now for invoice and even a couple of grand under invoice.

Although there are couple of new 07 z4m or even 06 z4m out there if you look really close enough, however usually color combo is facked.

not an upgrade.
Euh maybe not in your mind, I guess it's a subjective thing but the M Roadster does pretty much everything better than the S2000.
Ok so the S2000 has maybe a slightly better steering response; does it make it a better sports car because it has better steering response?

Is the BMW a faster car than the S2000? Absolutely. S2000 is slow as molasses in comparison to modern cars, at least in stock form. I'd still take a miata over the BMW, however. It has no soul.

Not everything can be quantified by a torque curve and skidpad numbers.

I'd highly disagree...

It's really pointless to be arguing about whether a car "has no soul". I don't even believe people have souls, much less cars.
I personaly do think that BMWs have become overpowered, overweight, overly-automated luxocruisers. Yes, they are fast, but they acheive this mainly by throwing dollars and horsepower at the problem. They couldn't make an S2000 if they wanted to -- nobody would pay BMW prices for a car with so little luxury or automation.
However, my dad seemed to like the Z4MCoupe better than my S2000. I gave him a ride around Spokane Raceway Park in my semi-prepped car, and my friend Jim gave him a ride around the same track in a totally stock M Coupe. Dad was quite impressed by how the BMW was so much more comfy to ride in.
