I don't get why anyone would pay 40k for a CR over this?

I just went to the Maserati website. The Granturismo "MC" indeed does start at $150k (I'll pause for the laughter to die down....... okay that's enough........) and sure enough there are Porsche-like options, such as the $10,500 Bianco Fuji white paint that I had to go back and forth on the config to tell the difference from the no-cost Bianco Eldorado.
Others:
Rotors in a color other than dark red: $750, or $1,800 for polished aluminum
"Drilled leather" (known to normal humans as "perforated") center seat sections: $850
Carbon door sills: $900
CF aero pkg: $3,500
Exposed CF hood(!!?): $3,500
Interior CF pkg, "Evolution I": $1,647 (an oddly specific price)
Interior CF pkg, "Evolution IV" (there is no II or III): $5,500
So it is very possible to option one to $160k+, and this isn't even the convertible which is $11k more ($161k base). It's a nice car, but daaaaaammn that was way more than I was expecting. You can get an R8 or NSX or any number of 911s for that.

Around these parts maseratis are driven by 30k millionaire types.

they are a dime a dozen here in Malibu. Seriously, I’ll see 5-6 a day on pch.
When I was looking for a car summer of 2015 I looked at maseratis, mercs, m5, and the Aston Martin rapide.
The maserati I removed first, underpowered, unreliable, horrible depreciation, and (IMO) seemed to have a high douche quotient. If anyone paid 160k for the a Maserati they should have their money taken away and be put on an allowance.
They em are pretty and sound nice. My wife liked them...but only because they are pretty. She prefered the m5 over all of them and so did I.

Very pretty, but it's basically a "budget" Ferrari. I wouldn't touch one with a fifty-foot pole. For that kind of money you could have something faster, just as luxurious and less costly maintenance-wise. RS5 immediately comes to mind.

Why does the unreliable thing keep coming up? Who here besides me has actually had one? I've had 3 different Maseratis and none of them had reliability issues - just the typical Italian glitches, which any Ferrari/Maserati owner knows what I'm talking about.
Lots of people in here claiming they're unreliable and have never had one.

So maybe you have been lucky, but pretending that they are reliable is a different story. Just like the GTIs I've owned have been reliable, they are for the most part, unreliable. Also the problem is with the Maserati is that when something breaks, it costs way more than a comparable car like a Porsche or similar. In that price range 911s & R8s are much more reliable and cheaper to fix.
You can know that a Ferrari 355 is expensive to maintain without actually owning the car.

My neighbour baby sat one when his friend was out of town. Let's just say he won't be doing that again and it's convinced me to never buy one. I do love the look though.

Theres a reason many of us have looked at one, driven one, and never bought one. My close friend and his partner got matching ones. 1 was lemoned the first year, the other was sold after 18 months bc of all the stupid issues that kept coming up. Have 2 other friends with a Ghibli and GT that have had a bunch of issues as well.

Also, a window regulator broke on my 911. Cost $1600 to repair. I guess that's cheap?
3 maseratis, no issues, I should play the lottery I guess.
