since i have gathered that you can in fact drive from the others on here, i am changing my tune and will now say that i will put money on the alignment and/or tire pressures being off. I apologize for the way my first post came off. I have driven Elises quite a bit albeit not the fed car and simply cannot imagine anyone complaining about the steering or getting significant understeer unless there was something wrong.
Out of curiousity, do you have any other experience with mid-enging rwd cars?

quick question.. i had a alfa spider before.. and a GTV.. and it found so far the steering on those to be the best ever.. It still seems i have to steer more that i should to turn in..
The guy that had my spider had a tvr before. (the spider was for his GF) and he actually commented on the turn in on it and the feel+grip.
the feel in the GTV and turn in+ grip is much better that the s2000.. till the understeer kicked in.. obviouly a s2000 is better.. but the alfa had so much more feel and connection to the road..
anyone else driving one like to comment?

maybe if you'd actually read my posts you might understand.
S2000 is $33K out the door driven off the lot, or $30200 before T&L.
My elise was $45K (probably $46K, because I would've ordered the paint protection film, because the elise's paint is very soft and the paint protection film goes on very nicely), plus tax and license...

I ask because an executive sales manager just recently picked his Elise. Tax and License, Tire fee, DES Charge, Touring Package Silver Paint, $46,505.56.
An all out "everything included" tax and whatnots bells and streamers with the expensive paint job is only (ran the numbers through the Dealer) is $51,375.15. Neither is near that $20K difference in price you'd find in a give away impossible to find discounted $30.7K S.

i test drove 2004 S2K and Elise with hardtop/touring pack and exhaust(and 1994 SupraTT) this past weekend
the car feels very, very, very reminiscent to a low power formula car, such as formula dodge skip barber car.
i'm 6'2'' 237lb its actually roomier than the S xcept pedal box
plenty of headroom with hardtop for me, but i slouch
pedal box needs work, depending on your preferred footwork. gas too far from brake and 2 inches!! higher than full brake pedal height, therefore heel and toe only possible with roll the instep technique. but pedas could be modded to suit
also my knees were fairly bent and grazing steering wheel
bottom line: best use; track day/hot lapping car that u drive to track
ingress/egress is as difficult as a full caged race car....which is sorta fun, but would get old fast if used for daily driver chores.
the steering feels crappy or different to those not familiar with formula cars above, but will confer grip and feel when caning the car. it feels like its got about 1 inch of play off center, but tiny steering wheel is great. that said,
ride excellent for a track oriented car
car not broken in so i couldn't redline car, even though i called to make sure it was a broken in car.......you dick!!!
S2000 is way, way better all around use car if u have day to day uses.
Elise feels very special and is exotic like in its overall effect.
You need one.......in chrome yellow...or metallic purple
supra has better steering than both...it is astonishing...whatever

I'm sure somewhere in LaLa somebody is selling a new S for 33K out the door. But not around here. I hope the S isn't going for that low. That almost puts in "Get Rid of" Miata discount status. But anyway, $33K to $45K or $46K does not equal to a $20K difference.
