Is the S2000 Too Much for a First Car?

Although the S2000 is a desirable sports car, there are a few things new drivers should consider about the little Honda before choosing one as their first vehicle.

It's a good car to learn how to drive a manual, but I don't feel it is a good first car for a new driver. Too responsive and easy to do something you shouldn't on. Sports cars are not good cars build early driving experience on.

I guess by today's standards it's just not that fast. RWD and youth is probably the bigger problem.

Cars like the S2k aren't that great for first time drivers. RWD + Immaturity = Danger. I can just imagine a 16 year old wanting to push the vehicle on every on ramp and off ramp... Edging every closer to the limit, until one day the car bites back.

The S2000 is a great first car if you really want to learn how to "drive".

I yelled at someone who did that to my S at a burial.

My 13 year old son knows that he's getting a Corolla or Civic for his first car. I will let him learn a manual on my Cobra because I think everyone should know how to drive one just in case. I can see any kid getting into a lot of trouble with an S2000 since it can do everything quite well giving a bit too much confidence. I even have to remind myself that the other cars I drive handle entirely differently.

I told him my first car was a Vette. I had to clarify it wasn't a Corvette but a Chevette.
