Default Talk me out of buying an E39 M5

What the title says. I've been looking at them for a while, and I'm "this close" to pulling the trigger on a mint one. Let's just say it's extremely low mileage and practically a brand new car.

The only things that are stopping me are:

1. Have to get rid of my S2000. I'm keeping the E36 M3 as the track car, and we have a baby on the way, so I'm trying to convince myself that the S has to go and a 4-door has to come in. But, that's a hard thing to do...

2. Scared of spending $30-40K on a 6-year-old BMW M-car without a warranty. I've been down this road before in my M3... I bought it for $14K and have since put $28K more into the car.

3. Money, obviously. I'll be able to sell my S for about half of what I'll pay for the M5.

I'm not worried about gas mileage, because I live close to work, and I won't be making many long trips in the M5, so I won't put on that many miles. The M5 will replace my S as my daily driver.

Thoughts?

just keep the S and get a used minivan or suv for your family. you'll appreciate not having to bend over to get your kid in/out of the car repeatedly for the next 2-3 years.

I won't talk you out of it.

It's an excellent car, with excellent performance, excellent luxury, and excellent reliability. Just make sure you get a good example.

I personally don't like the idea of spending more than $30k on an used car, regardless of the model. 400hp is not that much anymore nowadays. If I were you, I probably would buy a new sports sedan. My suggestion would be a base BMW E90 sedan or Infiniti G35 sedan. The feeling of owning a new car is unattainable from any used car(except exotics) in my opinion. You could baby your new car from day one. I rather drive a new 3-series sedan than a used M5. But it is just me.

I would buy a honda 4cyl accord which is great on gas and sell the old m3 which still has great resale use that money to mod the s2k which has more potential at becoming a better track car (Aftermarket parts, S2ki sponsers)
