Default 2017 Civic Type R

I see the prototype has just been revealed.

Looks quite good, less in your face than the current one but still like them both. The new one looks very like the old Impreza STi hatch.

I'm a little surprised at the quick and reasonably radical change in 2-3 years though, and wonder if the BTCC car will swap to the new platform?

It IS Impreza-ive.

We knew Bagpuss-R was really just a test bed for the FC, to ensure the K20C1 was a bit less grenade than the F20Cs were.

The new structure is lighter and stiffer and the FC has a multilink rear, so despite its huge size I should expect the new car to be competitive at last.

First truly decent one since the EK9?

Looks like it would be a bitch to polish

Is it really going to have 340bhp and front wheel drive? In current conditions that would be worse than useless imo

what's the 3rd middle exhaust for? I hope that is an 'afterburner' Top Gun style!

Not sure any car can carry off 3 exhausts...

Isn't this the rumoured US Type R?
Don't think they change it that fast tbh... No way they get their costs covered in just 3 years

It's being released in the US and UK Europe I think.

I like that a lot! Most manufacturers are on the road to "global" models now - makes sense..

Noise regs, I believe.

The NSX has four (being a V6) - two pea-shooters between the big guns.

Indeed.

Plus Swindon is about the only Honda plant that's horribly under-utilised. Having a global model sourced from there alone makes a lot of financial sense.
